".
I would like to welcome the report’s call for fuel tax exemptions to promote the production of biofuels. Such a policy would move us closer to the EU’s target of 5.75% for the consumption of biofuels.
The active development of renewable energy will go some way towards addressing the fossil fuel crisis. It can lead to environmental improvements, although I agree with both the rapporteur and the Commissioner here this morning that we need to monitor this environmental impact. It can, and will, also bring economic benefits through developing new technologies, job creation and retooling in the agricultural sector, in particular where sugar factories are earmarked for closure."@en1
