"Mr President, I had the honour of receiving a declaration from a group of young people who visited the European Parliament last Thursday. They were rather disappointed at not being able to meet more of us, and I therefore promised to inform you of what they wanted to say. They came from the Second Chance School, and their message is as follows: ‘We, the young people from across Europe, participating in the E2C youth summit in Copenhagen in June 2005, hereby declare the following: “All young people have the right to make decisions about their life and create their own future. All young people have the right to an education – at any level. All young people have the right to be different and to be as they really are. Everybody should respect each other, and respect goes both ways. No young person should be discriminated against or suppressed. All young people should have homes, food and care.” ’ As a message from those schools for which we fight so very hard, namely those that guarantee lifelong learning for all, this is something that I really think we should take to heart in our forthcoming political work."@en1
