". I voted for this resolution as in many respects it provides a balanced response to the ill-considered action of the Danish newspaper in commissioning cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed for publication, knowing this would be considered an offensive act. It recognises that the reaction was largely orchestrated by political forces seeking to create hatred of some western governments and also acknowledges that the vast majority of Muslims reacted not with violence but with dignity and outrage at the violence, which they feel does not reflect the values of their faith. However, I note that once again Parliament has failed to criticise one of our own Member States, which has been criticised by the Council of Europe for raising the temperature on immigration. This has created a climate which raises tensions. Parliament must be consistent in its own approach to failures within its borders and not just outside them."@en1
