lpv:translated text	"( Mr President, as the European Parliament is debating Russia, the trial of Stanislav Dmitrijewski, senior editor of the newspaper and head of the Russia-Chechnya Friendship Association, is continuing in Nijni Novgorod. Mr Dmitrijewski is one of the most distinguished human rights’ defenders in the Russian Federation. The Russia-Chechnya Friendship Association’s web site is the main platform presenting the situation concerning human rights and political freedoms in the Southern Caucasus, notably in Chechnya. The next hearing in Mr Dmitrijewski’s case is set for 3 February 2006. When discussing Russian we tend to express concern about the state of democracy and also about the restriction of human rights and the activities of non-governmental organisations. It is only right to remember, however, that a different kind of Russia exists as well. The latter is a country of human rights’ defenders and of politicians ready to face up to the authoritarian political system. It is also a Russia with a flourishing culture and a sensitive civil society that constitutes a genuine link between contemporary Russia and the European Union."@en1
