Through a system of invitations to tender, private companies will be able to use their own crews in ports, while permanent dockworkers will lose their jobs. The ‘self-handling’ proposal is absolutely unacceptable. There is already sufficient competition in our ports which, it should be noted, are also among the cheapest in the world.
