"Mr President, I read in the Roure report that one of the messages to be sent out in the course of 2007, the European Year of Equal Opportunities, is that everyone is entitled to equal treatment. The promotion of respect and tolerance is also high on the agenda. Given the politically correct tenor of the report and given past experience, I will entertain few illusions about the Commission’s intention to make it clear, to Europe’s Islamic communities in particular, that violence against Jews and discrimination against women are unacceptable. A study in 2002 showed, for example, that anti-Semitic behaviour is particularly rife among Muslims. Since this is, of course, not in keeping with the politically correct image that we have, this report’s conclusions were confined to the waste paper basket. The most prevalent and blatant cases of discrimination are covered up with the mantle of love. No one has ever died of hypocrisy, of course."@en1
