". I voted in the REACH debate as I did because, as a Labour MEP, I support the overall objectives of REACH: the protection of human health and the environment through increased knowledge about potentially hazardous chemicals. I would like to see a rapid, efficient system for collecting the necessary information on chemicals and for tackling those of most concern, whilst minimising animal testing and maintaining the competitiveness of the chemical industry. I believe that vertebrate animal testing should be kept to the absolute minimum necessary to ensure that sufficient information is available for decision-making on health and environmental protection. I support the UK's proposal for a system of 'one substance, one registration', whereby all manufacturers or importers of the same substance would work together to provide one set of 'core' data for registration. That would ensure that an agreed package of information would be assembled at registration, thereby providing coherent information for the benefit of users and consumers."@en1
