". International organised crime is a huge, and growing, phenomenon. How is this growth measured? Which data actually reflect what is happening? Nobody has a clear, coherent picture of how far organised crime actually extends. Things cannot be allowed to continue in this vein. As politicians, can we tolerate this situation? No. There is an urgent need to step up the fight against international crime on European territory, for the sake of our societies in the years ahead. The new text on the table seeks to improve the effectiveness of the fight against organised crime. This text is more precise in its focus; for example, it defines relations between Europol and Interpol, and this is particularly welcome. I voted in favour of the Dunn report, because I believe that these measures may help strengthen the fight against organised crime."@en1
