". Mr President, it is the credibility of the European Parliament that is at stake if it does not call Serbia to account for its promises. Of course, we do not intend to isolate Serbia but it has to keep to its undertakings. Serbia and Montenegro cannot come closer to Europe without that. The fact-finding mission led by Mrs Pack was very positive, but only managed to bring a temporary improvement as the situation has not actually been settled. Therefore it is crucial that in the spirit of today’s resolution the European Parliament – as well as the Commission and the Council – continuously checks and monitors the violation of minority rights, and it is even more important that we do not just accept resolutions but see some actual improvement at last. I would like to mention two areas: on the one hand, the restoration of the autonomy of Vojvodina suspended by Milosevic is pivotal, and on the other hand, the equal opportunities of minorities in the economy is also essential. At this point, I would like to assure Mrs Pack about the intention of the Hungarian Government to make every effort to protect the rights of Hungarian people in Vojvodina. In case she does not have appropriate information on this issue, I will provide all the necessary references."@en1
