"We welcome international solidarity when countries are hit by natural disasters or other events with devastating consequences. We do not, however, believe that the EU should use events of this kind to strengthen its influence over different policy areas. The Commission should not carry out detailed analyses of the causes of forest fires. The EU should not develop a common policy for preventing forest fires. No EU bodies should be set up with responsibility for monitoring a variety of climate factors. It is a pity that the European Parliament should try to take every opportunity to promote the positions adopted by the EU."@en1
