". This is a timely report on the situation of the textile industry after the removal of export quotas and the outlook for its future. It is clear to me that there is no long term future for European textile producers hiding behind a wall of protection. The measures taken to limit Chinese imports must be seen as temporary and used by the industry to restructure and move up-market. However, European textile manufactures deserve to operate on a level playing field and open access to our markets must be mirrored by similar access to third country markets. Similarly if EU producers invest in new designs and materials they deserve the full protection of their intellectual property rights."@en1
