As a signatory of the Motion of Censure, my intention, as declared in the Motion, was to ensure that Commission President José Manuel Barroso should come to the parliament to explain the lavish hospitality which he had received from a Greek shipping magnate. This objective was achieved, and like most signatories I should then have been very happy for the Motion to be withdrawn. Apparently this was not possible for procedural reasons. Since I did not wish the Motion to be voted at all, it seemed that my most logical course of action would be to abstain on the vote."@en1
