The resolution attempts to give an overall analysis of European history over the past 60 years, including Nazism, Stalinism, occupation, freedom, and much more. Much as I agree with the gist of the resolution, the European Parliament is a political body rather than a congress of historians. Our role cannot be to type out on a word processor, in the space of a week and a half, an analysis of recent European political history. We should stick to what we are good at, and it is for that reason that I have abstained from the vote."@en¹
