".
Today, this House adopted a resolution about the future of Europe 60 years after the Second World War. The resolution attempts to give an overall analysis of European history over the past 60 years, including Nazism, Stalinism, occupation, freedom, and much more. Much as I agree with the gist of the resolution, the European Parliament is a political body rather than a congress of historians. Our role cannot be to type out on a word processor, in the space of a week and a half, an analysis of recent European political history. We should stick to what we are good at, and it is for that reason that I have abstained from the vote."@en1
