Currently it is possible to opt-out of the 48-hour week by way of either an individual, or a group, signing an agreement with the employer. The European Commission wishes to retain the opt-outs, the CERCAS report eliminates them. Amendment 37 was listed as, ‘Proposal to reject the Commission proposal’. By voting against this amendment UKIP was seeking to restore the commission position, hence retaining opt-outs."@en1
