"Mr President, 60 seconds for so many problems! I will have to confine myself to just a few points. As I am the rapporteur for the economic part of these integrated guidelines, I will have another opportunity to tell you all of the good points that I see in the new procedure. Nevertheless, reading these proposals from the Commission left me rather unsatisfied. Some of the proposals are so general that they are almost verging on the banal. I am well aware that the Commission’s task is a difficult one, because we live in a Europe of 25 Member States, with sometimes very different economic and social situations. In this regard, I should like to know whether the Commission intends to do what the Vice-President, Mr Verheugen, announced, that is to complement this very general programme, this ‘one size fits all’ programme with some tailor-made ones. On the same subject, I read that the Commission was reserving the right to table a communication identifying the most relevant challenges for each of the Member States. I believe that this is the right approach and I should like to have some more details about this Commission objective."@en1
