"Nuclear weapons constitute a serious threat to our global security, and not only in countries such as North Korea and Iran. The June List’s MEPs support the call to limit the spread of nuclear weapons, something that, in the long term, should lead to a phasing-out of all nuclear weapons.
With its experience, knowledge and global reach, the United Nations (UN) is the best organisation for guaranteeing the success of the Non-Proliferation Treaty 2005. The UN must therefore be given priority in the work on global disarmament. The resolution contains, however, proposals that would gradually strengthen the role of the EU’s foreign and defence policy, something that would be in danger of weakening the UN’s position."@en1
