"Madam President, Mr President-in-Office of the Council, thank you very much for your answer, which is satisfactory. I should like, nonetheless, to remind you that, of course, the early warning system is very important because, today, 70 million people are living on the shores of the Mediterranean, not counting tourists. In other words, we do not want a repeat of the disaster in South-East Asia.
Furthermore, we have numerous fires, numerous earthquakes and other natural disasters. Consequently, what I should like to hear from you, in addition to what you have already said, which is highly satisfactory, is whether we really are prepared to make available the sum needed, because this sum will be much larger than the sum we already have for the bridge programme or the sum of around EUR 12 million budgeted for the early warning system. We are talking about several million euros more and I should like to know if the European Union has decided to make these sums available."@en1
