"Mr President, Mr President-in-Office of the Council, Commissioner, I would like to make two points. Firstly, in April, we will have a further debate on the issue of textiles, and the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on International Trade will also hold a joint hearing on this topic. On behalf of my colleagues and the two committees, I look forward to continuing this debate and hope that we will, on those occasions, have more reliable data with which to work. Secondly, it is now 2005, which means that at the end of the year, we will have the WTO negotiations in Hong Kong. I think this is a good opportunity to send out the signal to China to which many of my fellow-Members have referred, and to exert gentle pressure by diplomatic means. I believe that it is essential to do so. Finally, it is also important that, in preparing the analysis to which the President-in-Office of the Council referred, there should be real consideration of the various factors involved. We must find out more about what is happening, for example, in Tunisia, Turkey or our traditional EU Member States, both in terms of what is going well and what is going wrong. We really do need a more carefully researched and clearer picture. If, in conjunction with the relevant Commissioners, you could provide us with this before the end of your Presidency, it would be more than helpful."@en1
