". I voted in favour of this joint resolution essentially because I agree that, as things currently stand in the Middle East, in particular in Palestine, there is a unique opportunity finally to resume the peace process. Against this backdrop, the balance-sheet on the Palestinian electoral process is in credit. There are some aspects, however, from which I should like to distance myself. The international community, and the EU in particular – cannot treat the State of Israel, the Palestinian Authority and the so-called ‘armed Palestinian groups’ as though they were equals. A democratic state cannot be bracketed in the same category as terrorist groups. Such obfuscation is unacceptable."@en1
