"The fight against Aids should unite all people of good will. Unfortunately, the strategy for this fight proposed in the joint motion for a resolution, a strategy based on the promotion of ‘reproductive and sexual rights’, excludes millions of people in Europe and the world. The reason for this is that millions of people throughout the world do not believe that any benefit can result from the promotion of abortion and contraception and from the provision of sex education to ever-younger children in violation of the rights of parents and without their knowledge or consent. Many people in Europe are morally opposed to such things, and justifiably so. Furthermore, there is no proven link between the promotion of such ‘reproductive rights’ and a fall in the number of those infected with Aids. Quite the contrary is the case. Some African countries, such as Uganda, have significantly reduced the number of infections, not by promoting the use of condoms, but by encouraging a move towards abstinence and more responsible sexual behaviour. Such brazen promotion of ‘reproductive rights’ makes it impossible for me to vote in favour of this resolution."@en1
