". Mr President, I will be very brief. Firstly, on a personal level, I would like to thank those Members of Parliament who addressed kind words to me. It has been a privilege for me to be the first Commissioner for justice and home affairs. It has been a very rewarding experience to cooperate so closely and so fruitfully with this Parliament, and especially with the Committee on Citizens' Freedoms and Rights, Justice and Home Affairs. This is not just a question of faith. It is a question of deep belief that the area of freedom, security and justice will, in the years to come, be in the driving seat of the European integration process. I am sure that Members of Parliament will go back to their electorates in June and feel proud of the work they have done in this area over the last five years. Finally, Mr President, due to the fact that you personally have chaired most of the meetings I have attended in this Parliament, I feel privileged to that you have been my private chairman! Thank you so much."@en1
