"We do not want the Commission to table a proposal aimed at changing the national share systems. We have chosen to vote against the wording that calls upon the Commission to implement the one share/one vote principle, because this is not in line with the principle of subsidiarity. Such a proposal would have far-reaching consequences for patterns of ownership in quite a few Member States.
Different national company law systems must be respected. Nor can we support the wording designed to facilitate the movement of workers, because it takes no account of trade union aspects and is not accompanied by demands that companies accept social responsibility. Increased movement in the European labour market is good, but we cannot accept flexibility at workers’ expense."@en1
