I agree with this report, which seeks approval for a proposal to exclude those parts of airports reserved exclusively for small aircraft from the scope of Regulation (EC) No 2320/2002. This regulation, which entered into force in January 2003, was adopted in the aftermath of the terrible events of 11 September 2001 and sought the adoption of heightened civil aviation security measures, especially at airports. The amendment particularly concerns aerodromes for small aircraft and leisure flying that are adjacent to airports and results from the fact that it is inefficient and costly to apply to these areas the same security standards that are applied to airports. In those situations where small aircraft use facilities adjoining airports, the Commission proposes to introduce ‘demarcated areas’, separated from the other areas. I voted for the report."@en1
