"I should like to ask the President-in-Office a question in relation to this important issue that is before us today: would he look also at the Scotch-Irish language in Northern Ireland? As with the Irish language, there has been a great interest in it and more people are speaking Scotch-Irish today than have spoken it for many years. However, in Northern Ireland there is a feeling that neither the United Kingdom Government nor the European Union are looking at it favourably, as compared with other languages. I would ask the President-in-Office to undertake to look into this matter of the Scotch-Irish language and see to it that the principle of equality be implemented with regard to this language, along with all the other languages of the European Union, so that they can all stand on a level playing field."@en1
