". This amendment on the Social Protection Committee, which was established by Council decision of 29 June 2000, is of a basically procedural nature. It was brought about by the entry into force of the Treaty of Nice, on 1 February 2003, in particular by the new legal basis set out in Article 144 thereof, with the Commission and Parliament having taken the opportunity to make some changes to the approach they had adopted previously. One of the proposals that the EP has adopted and which I tabled in the Committee of Employment and Social Affairs seeks to ensure that the joint report on social protection pays ‘particular attention to poverty issues and to progress in social inclusion within the EU Member States and in the accession countries’. Proposals seeking to incorporate the gender dimension horizontally into the committee’s duties, and to report on problems specifically affecting women were also adopted, particularly on the feminisation of poverty and the changes in family models. I therefore believe it is important to establish indicators broken down by gender and to focus on the individual rather than on the household."@en1
