".
I supported Mrs Honeyball’s report because I believe it demonstrates the European Parliament’s support for the Commission so that this institution can open up a real debate in the Council on the crucial harmonisation of tax in the automobile sector. This proactive attitude is what the vast majority of European citizens want because they associate the excessive red tape and high administrative costs, and also the fragmentation of the car market, with the difficulties in consolidating the internal market. I wish to add that the crucial environmental dimension, which is covered adequately in the reports, requires a new attitude to the taxation of cars."@en1
