Why has the Council not agreed the proposed Directive on a short-term residents' permit for trafficking victims while they cooperate with prosecution to put the criminal gangs behind bars? Why do some Member States take up to a year to respond to requests from Eastern European countries for legal assistance with prosecutions? Why are there immediate deportations of victims, which catch the countries of origin and international organisations like IOM unaware, as opposed to a coordinated policy of assisted returns?"@en1
