lpv:spoken text	"Mr President, I just wish to thank all those Members of the House, across all nationalities, delegations and groups, who signed my written declaration. It is a mark of a civilised society how it treats its animals. This is a wake-up call to the Commission and in particular Commissioner Byrne, whom I now call upon to come before the House to make a statement on this issue. It is dear to our hearts that we uphold high welfare standards in animal transport, in particular in the acceding countries, where there is no tradition of high welfare standards for animals. I would also like to make the point that I am delighted that my amendment to the Corbett report, taking written declarations outside of the plenary, has now come of age. I have seen a lot of interest today in both the piracy issue and Rugby League. Let us hope that the Members of this House will sign declarations in future."@en1
