My own preference and determination is to bring forward a satisfactory proposal to the House at the earliest possible date. That has not so far emerged in terms likely to commend majorities and so the consultation between the groups continues. I can promise you that I am determined to act on this with urgency. I request publicly, here today, what I requested privately last week at the Conference of Presidents – that the groups give real urgency to producing for us a satisfactory outcome. Whatever the various preferences colleagues have about Parliament and seats, a calendar should nonetheless honour the rule of law: something that is inescapable and indispensable in the life of a parliament."@en1
