I congratulate Mrs Avilés Perea on the excellent report she has drawn up on ‘objectives of equality of opportunities between women and men in the use of the Structural Funds’, which I fully support, especially with regard to the need to consolidate the objective of promoting equality of opportunities between women and men in operations co-financed by the Funds (as stipulated in the Structural Funds’ General Regulations and as applied to the programmes of the three Funds and four Community initiatives). I also wish to highlight the need for actions taken under the European Social Fund not only to affect improving women’s participation in education, in vocational training and in the labour market, but also in reducing segregation in the labour market, in reducing pay differentials, in promoting the role of women in the fields of information technology and communication, entrepreneurship and decision-making processes. The actions of the European Social Fund and of the other Community funds and initiatives must be drawn up in such a way that they properly cover regional and local levels within the State structure, and not only the national level."@en1
