The measures relating to interoperability are however contained in a rail package which propounds extending competition to the rail transport sector and opening it up to privatisation. The report stresses long-term profitability and is expresses concern about a reduction in the competitiveness of rail transport. It does not however take a clear stand against privatisation and competition or against the consequent dismantling of a public service. In essence, this report reflects policies that seek to do away with public services. We therefore abstained from the vote on this report."@en¹
