You are completely misinterpreting the Rules. They are clear on this point: when we have a roll call vote and when we call the result, the result stands. That has been the constant practice of all my predecessors and is consistent with the Rules. I sometimes regret that, owing to technical problems, Members' votes are not properly registered. However, I have followed to the letter a precedent on which I exercise zero discretion. In those terms, although colleagues can be upset that their vote has not been recorded, it is a fact and a practice of this House that only those votes recorded and duly announced carry the result.
