I want you to know however that, among those Cubans who are not allowed to leave the country, are dozens of people who, after having put their names to the Varela Project calling for a referendum, have been expelled from their universities, imprisoned, harassed, maltreated and arrested. The crime they have committed is to endorse a referendum on democracy. That shows just how provocative a prize this is, and how important it is.
