lpv:translated text	". There are now two possible solutions: either we can use animals for experimental and other scientific purposes, or we can use human beings. We made a fully informed choice to use animals to further the progress of science and to create modern medicine, which has invented antibiotics and vaccines. Let us therefore say yes to the abolition of tests on animals, where alternative methods are authorised or when there are species threatened with extinction. The rapporteur’s proposals are unacceptable. By prohibiting the development and testing of weapons on animals, by halting the development of new cosmetic products in the absence of alternative tests that are safe for human beings, or by abolishing the use of large primates for the development of new vaccines, we would be placing human health at risk. Furthermore, creating a central inspectorate, at EU level, to monitor the public and private establishments where such experiments are carried out will also fail to contribute towards a solution to the problem of animal experiments. By voting against this report, we are not neglecting the interests of animals, but we are instead safeguarding the interests of human beings. Let us not allow animals to take precedence over human beings and human health."@en1
