The members of the delegation have come to Strasbourg to meet with their counterparts in the European Parliament on the occasion of the fifth meeting of the parliamentary committee on EU-Moldavia cooperation. I hope, as do all my colleagues, that this meeting was useful and that the members of the delegation have a pleasant stay in Strasbourg. *** Within the context of interparliamentary relations, the delegation from the Algerian Parliament, led by Mr Bouzid Lazhari, chairman of the Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs of the Council of the Nation, is making its sixth visit to the European Parliament. In welcoming you, Mr Lazhari, and the members of your delegation, I would like to stress the importance that we attach to these meetings which provide the opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to democratic values and principles and to the respect of fundamental rights. The time is right, since we are currently examining the draft association agreement between Algeria and the European Union.
