"Mr President, like Sir Neil MacCormick I welcome this report, particularly now it is amended to give it more teeth. When we adopted our original timeshare legislation I hoped that the long queue of people coming to see me about problems would come to an end. Indeed, they did for a while but they started again because as soon as one set of legislation is established, fraudsters will then move on to something else. The latest scam is basically establishing so-called holiday clubs. I welcome the fact that we are taking action on this. It is important to remember that, in terms of the approach to the citizens of the European Union, it is our ability to take action on issues like this which is very important so that people recognise that they are part of a citizens' Europe and that if they have problems in one country, they can make representation through the legal system properly. Fortunately, as Sir Neil said, we now have a number of organisations which are working very hard in this sector and the situation has improved. However, we need to deal with the fraudsters who spread so much misery."@en1
