"I should like to say to Mr Korakas that I hope that socialist advances do not need to be bound up with an absence of democracy and human rights and a lack of opportunities to travel to other countries and participate in discussions. In my view, it would not be wise to have such a definition of socialist achievements. Whatever may be thought of the American boycott – and I must not rake up the whole history of this – there is of course no doubt that there could have been free elections in Cuba and much greater progress made on human rights and that, if these things had in fact happened, those who want to see the boycott lifted would have had very strong arguments available to them."@en1
