". – I would like to reiterate the Commission's gratitude to the rapporteur and the shadow rapporteurs for the effective and constructive way in which they have participated in the discussions between the institutions over recent weeks. We are close to finding an overall compromise that will enable the regulation to be adopted without a requirement for conciliation, which will enable the European Food Safety Authority to be established early next year. As regards the Commission's position on the amendments, it is as follows. The Commission can accept Amendments Nos 1, 7, 10, 13, 14, 16, 19, 21 to 24, 26 and 29 to 44. The Commission cannot accept Amendments Nos 2 to 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 15, 17, 18, 20, 25, 27 and 28. On the issue that has been raised by Mr Whitehead, as I indicated in the debate yesterday evening, I believe strongly that the seat of the authority should be chosen on rational and operational criteria that will facilitate the smooth functioning of the European Food Safety Authority. As such, I can support the principles expressed in the resolution referred to by Mr Whitehead."@en1
