". I have voted against the Report on Turkey. Turkey has not yet taken the necessary measures to fully restore the political rights of the Kurdish people, suppress torture and abolish the special security courts and prisons that drive prisoners to go on hunger strikes which have claimed more than 70 victims already. Turkey has not even fixed a precise timetable for fulfilling the political criteria of Copenhagen. We are giving up human rights for geopolitical and military reasons. That is not admissible in a democratic Parliament."@en1
