"Mr President, I am entirely in favour of the activities of the European Ombudsman and what he has been doing over the past few years, as set out in this report. The truth is that many European citizens do not know their rights, do not know what they can do on the basis of European directives and, above all, think that European directives and regulations are not European. They are convinced they are Italian laws, and I do not think that is a good thing. I therefore propose to the European Ombudsman to insist, and this Parliament to accept my request, that European directives and regulations are called ‘European laws’ when incorporated into national legislation."@en1
