"Mr President, before I came to Strasbourg, I met Mr Fortunato Rossi, a pensioner of 80, who said to me: "I have had a terrible car accident. A Member of the European Parliament – what a coincidence – ran into me: I have got a broken foot and a broken arm and my head is in very bad shape; I have suffered greatly as a result of this. I went to the insurance company and they said that I am 80 years old, I am not worth anything any longer, I cannot earn anything and, therefore, they are not going to give me any compensation. However, if, on the other hand, it had been I who had run into the Member of the European Parliament, I would have had to pay him at least ITL 2 billion. Does it seem right to you, Mr Fatuzzo, that an old man does not have the right to compensation when he is hit by another car?" I replied: "You are right, Mr Not-Very-Fortunato Rossi. I will call for the next report on the subject to provide for fair compensation for elderly pensioners.""@en1
