"Madam President, I was happy to vote for the directive on ozone. As we know, ozone, in itself, is activated oxygen: a healthy thing. What, I regret to say, is not healthy is destroying part of the protective layer of ozone which is in the air, causing an increase in radiation from the sun and the climate change that we all fear. If this should happen, as we are well aware, that would be harmful – as it already is – to all the citizens but, especially, since it is mainly a question of the air we breathe, to the elderly, many of whom suffer from respiratory problems. I therefore hope that the European Union will genuinely continue to work to combat air pollution."@en1
