"Madam President, yesterday evening at the asparagus festival β which I attended and for which I thank the Mayor of Strasbourg for having invited us and you, Madam President, for having agreed and coordinated this important annual event of friendship β I found I was sharing a table with a retired judge. Naturally, between one stick of asparagus and another, we chatted about various things and I did not let the opportunity slip of asking him for information on the significance of this report by Mrs Gebhardt, if, that is, it was a good thing to have Eurojust. His answer was unequivocal: βIt is an important document. Europe should proceed towards a European justice system, towards European cooperation, while looking forward to a European code.β I followed his suggestion and therefore I voted in favour."@en1
