"Mr President, this document coordinates rail, road and inland waterway transport. How delightful, Mr President, for me, the representative of the Pensioners' Party in Italy, to be able to vote for this document. You might think, Mr President, that it has nothing to do with pensions and pensioners, but that is not the case. It does concern pensioners. If these measures are implemented, then, indeed, transport will be heavier on railways, inland waterways and roads, freight will be moved more quickly and the level of toxic emissions emanating from congested motorways and badly organised communications, toxins which, when inhaled by our citizens, cause serious diseases, will be reduced. In actual fact, there are many pensioners who have been made ill by this bad road circulation, and that increases social security costs in our States, which is not a good thing for pensioners. That is the connection, Mr President."@en1
