lpv:translated text	"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, I would like to point out how important it is that the Regulation is implemented in conformity with the provisions of the Montreal Convention. A uniform Regulation on liability in air transport creates transparency. It protects the interests not only of passengers but also of carriers which can maintain the generally recognised standards in international air transport. The competitiveness of European air carriers must not be impaired through liability rules which are not covered by the Montreal Convention. In order to create a uniform Regulation in conformity with the provisions of the Montreal Convention, I call on the Member States to ratify this Convention as soon as possible."@en1
