".
The proposal for this programme is based on Vision 2020, which has three main objectives – to reduce noise, to ensure greater safety and to reduce pollution. This research is therefore of general interest, and as I already mentioned in my first speech, it is pre-competitive research, which should therefore not be compared to specific development programmes on types of aircraft.
That is why I do not believe that there will be any difficulties in this area, since we are working within the rules agreed with the World Trade Organisation, and that the objectives are important and, moreover, concern the quality of life of all European citizens, and to the safety of Europe’s skies. It is therefore quite acceptable that these research projects form part of this objective."@en1
