"Madam President, I voted for Mr Katiforis' excellent, important report on the Commission's communication updating the directive on investment services. My feeling is that we should continue with the Community regulation of the circulation of our currency and of the financial investment services until we succeed in establishing a single European Stock Exchange. I know that such a Stock Exchange does not exist at present, but we have the European currency, the European flag and the European Parliament: we are already proceeding in that direction. Let us endeavour to create a European Stock Exchange as well. It would certainly be greater than the New York Stock Exchange."@en1
