"Madam President, still in the pilot’s cabin on the plane from Milan to Strasbourg and still chatting to the pilot – I even remember his name, Antoine – I told him how worried I was about air travel, because we can never be sure whether flying is safe and sometimes there are accidents. ‘What do you mean, Mr Fatuzzo?’ replied the pilot. ‘Flying is the safest form of transport there is. It is on the roads that most accidents happen. Of all forms of transport, the car causes by far the most deaths and injuries.’ So I am really delighted to welcome this document – and I have voted for it – through which Europe is taking specific action to reduce the very serious damage caused by road accidents."@en1
