"Mr President, I voted for the Trakatellis report which, as we know, allocates EUR 79.1 million for 2001-2002, including EUR 8.5 million to health information, EUR 31.1 million to the plan of action on cancer, EUR 22.2 million to the prevention of AIDS, EUR 11.4 million to the prevention of drug dependence, EUR 4.4 million to health monitoring and EUR 1.3 million to the fight against pollution-related diseases. I consider all this to be positive although I would prefer – and I say so now on this occasion – much more to be spent on the prevention of diseases. Preventing diseases costs less and is better in terms of health than treating them once they have developed."@en1
