"Madam President, I am most surprised by the Socialists’ refusal to vote on the shipping tragedy which killed 80 people. I think that the European Parliament has a duty to hold this simple vote which says what? Precisely that we are calling on the Commission to look at the larger picture, which is safety at sea in the European Union. Who can possibly be opposed to that? That is what we are calling for, that is what the motion is calling for. Is that so bad? I think we should all vote in favour and then get on with examining safety at sea in the European Union. That is the factor which we want quantified, Madam President."@en1
